Rooted in the values of human dignity, solidarity, and the common good. SDM believes that every student deserves representation that respects their rights and promotes their wellbeing.

Student Solidarity

We stand together across all faculties, backgrounds, and disciplines. Our strength lies in unity — advocating collectively for solutions that benefit every member of the student community.

Academic Excellence

We champion a University environment where learning flourishes. From fairer assessment to extended resources, SDM pushes for the standards every student deserves.

Open to the World

Malta's students deserve a global perspective. SDM promotes Erasmus+, international partnerships, and a campus culture that prepares graduates to thrive anywhere in the world.

Academic

Bill of Student Rights

Putting Students First

The Bill of Student Rights ensures every student knows what they are entitled to throughout their academic journey. It will be universally acknowledged throughout University, so you may rely on it at your time of need in whichever course you are.

What This Means for You

  • Guaranteed access to past papers
  • Recap Lectures
  • Fairer Resit conditions — no capping at 45%
  • Clear and publicly available course syllabi
  • Greater transparency in assessment rubrics
  • Quality Revision of Papers and related Feedback Sessions

What We Will Deliver

  • A written and published Bill of Student Rights as an update to the 2021 Student Charter
  • A simplified, student-friendly version accessible online
  • Immediate focus on key academic issues
  • Minimum Standards of what Students can expect and demand
  • A KSU which is ready to better represent and advise students in need, through this Bill

How We Will Make It Happen

  • The Student Charter is due for review next year — this team will not accept that Students remain in the same place they are now
  • Work with Class Representatives, Faculty representatives, Council and Senate Members to come to a new agreement

Why This Matters

  • Too many students throughout their university journey face what we consider to be unfair situations that limit them from achieving their potential. We want a fair deal for you!
Key Proposal
Academic

KSU Thesis & Policy Forum

Turning Student Work into Real Impact

We will create a platform where students can present their academic work to key industry leaders and people in power to bring about change from their research.

  • Opportunity to showcase your work and launch your career
  • Recognition for your academic effort
  • Exposure to professionals and organisations

What We Will Deliver

  • Space for students to present the ideas they worked hard on all year
  • Certificates and recognition for participants
  • Demonstrate to the Country that Youth have great ideas which can improve the life of people around us

How We Will Make It Happen

  • Collaborate with faculty and lecturers to identify the best thesis ideas across the University
  • Start with a focused pilot event
  • Allow and plan for later expansion based on participation and interest

Why This Matters

  • Too many deserving ideas remain unseen. This gives them the platform they deserve.
Key Proposal
Welfare

Kokka Fondi Goes International

Unlocking Student Potential Through Opportunity

We will widen the scope of Kokka Fondi to significantly increase uptake and ensure that more students benefit from the funding available, both locally and internationally.

What This Means for You

  • Support for international opportunities, including conferences, music festivals, sporting events and student organisation trips
  • A system that is easier to understand and more attractive to apply to
  • More students benefiting from funds that are already available

What We Will Deliver

  • Expanded eligibility to include international activities and student-led opportunities abroad
  • Higher maximum thresholds for applications
  • Increased visibility and promotion of Kokka Fondi across campus
  • Simplified and clearer application procedures
  • Transparent timelines and communication throughout the process

How We Will Make It Happen

  • Review and modernise the current scope of funding
  • Work with University and stakeholders to support international mobility and representation
  • Improve outreach so students are actively encouraged to apply
  • Monitor uptake and continuously adjust to maximise participation

Why This Matters

  • Kokka Fondi already exists, but it is underutilised. We want you to make unforgettable memories during your University days.

  • A productive environment for freelancing or projects
  • Better balance between work and university life

What We Will Deliver

How We Will Make It Happen

  • Use existing rooms across campus efficiently
  • Work with University IT and/or other service providers for infrastructure

  • More students are working while studying. Campus should support that reality.
Key Proposal

Rethinking Students’ House

Bringing Students’ House Back to Life

Transforming Students’ House into a space that students actually use, enjoy, and feel comfortable in.

What This Means for You

  • Deliver a new Rec-Space within Students’ House which would double up as a meeting place for KSU Member Organisations at certain times of the day
  • Offer KSU spaces for indoor sports, dance, fitness, and other classes run by young and student entrepreneurs or which employ students to deliver these classes
  • Bringing your favourite activities closer to you — no more long drives to studios, dojos and gyms after lectures
  • Empowering Students by offering them a rent-free space at University from where to carry out their businesses, with close proximity to their student base

What We Will Deliver

  • Clearly defined zones for study, socialising, and events
  • Improvements focused on usability, not unnecessary redesign
  • More student-led activity within the space

How We Will Make It Happen

  • Gather student input on what is missing
  • Implement practical, low-cost improvements
  • Activate the space through consistent events

Why This Matters

  • Students’ House should be the heart of campus life, not just a space students pass through.
Key Proposal
Community

KSU Representative in Every Class

Bringing KSU Closer to You

A KSU representation network across every class — offering class representatives benefits, direct support, and a voice that reaches from lecture halls to KSU leadership.

What This Means for You

  • An opportunity to be a real part of the largest student organisation in Malta
  • Benefits and support for those who join, as well as access to a growing community of students and alumni
  • Better representation for every student — we will never be too far away again!

What We Will Deliver

  • Class representatives added to a support network to voice concerns directly to KSU, share information, and call for help on behalf of their class
  • A benefit structure to make representation possible and attractive — currently many positions remain unfilled as students are inhibited, unsure, or can’t afford to take them on. We want to change that.

How We Will Make It Happen

  • Work with member organisations and University to find interested individuals and encourage those who are interested but unsure
  • Start with courses that currently have no structured representation, such as the Primary Education Course
  • Develop a benefit structure for all members of this community

Why This Matters

  • Representation is important to ensure students are treated fairly. KSU cannot be everywhere at once unless it grows — and it can only grow by making a conscious effort in this regard.

We have detailed proposals covering welfare, academics, technology, culture, and more.

Every proposal has been crafted through consultation with students across all faculties.

Student activism and advocacy have shaped my university life so far, and I want to use my experience to truly help make a change. We can all experience issues or problems at the university, and I want to not only be the voice that represents all of you, but I also want to be part of the change that helps to fix these problems. Faculty of Social Wellbeing · Social Work 4th Year

Students deserve to be heard and represented. This is not just a space, but a space for all students to feel at home and enjoy their time at university. My vision is that the student can see the university as more than just a classroom but as a second home.

Ella Micallef DarmeniaCandidate

Faculty of Laws · LLB 4th Year

Student voices must be genuinely heard — that is the core purpose of KSU and the reason I am contesting. My experience on the Faculty of Laws Board and in Senate has shown me the real pressures students face, and the responsibility we have to actively address them. By improving communication, strengthening support, and pushing for practical changes, we are committed to turning student concerns into real outcomes.
